Submittal
Also called: Submittals, Shop Drawings
Documents, samples, or product data submitted by the contractor to the architect or engineer for approval before materials are fabricated or installed. Submittals verify that specified materials and methods meet design intent.
Why It Matters in Construction
Submittal tracking is a high-volume, deadline-sensitive workflow. Late submittals delay procurement and construction. Automated tracking prevents items from falling through the cracks.
Common Examples
- A subcontractor uploads shop drawings for structural steel connections.
- The submittal log tracks review status across architect, engineer, and owner.
- Approved submittals trigger procurement and delivery scheduling workflows.
